Free Ringtones

Download your free ringtones (real music in mp3 format) for your cell phone. This is one of many ringtones sites that you can find real tones (link at the bottom of story). If your phone does not support real tones then you have even more sites that have free polyphonic and monotonic ringtones. Enjoy!

Also mobileffects is giving away free ringtones/wallpapers and java games to their first 10,000 visitors so check them out at mobile effects.

Motorola V551 battery life

For those of you who are still wondering whether it is your V551 phone or battery that is bad, you are not alone because many people are having the same problem. A few people that I know have had no problems with their V551's battery life.
One possible problem with the phone may the back light. Some phone's back lights tend to stay on and this may be killing the battery quickly. I just hope Motorola is going to fix the problems with these phones, so If you have been having these problems, check your back light and see your cingular rep to help you with the problem.
Some cingular people say the problem may be signal strength is poor but I have been using my other Nokia without problems in the same basic areas and I dont have to charge the Nokia for at least 10 days (and I use it often).

Firefox extensions-Speed Up and add anonymity

If you are still using Internet Explorer and have not tried any other alternative browsers, then please get Mozilla Firefox today. It is more secure than IE, it is fast and I have been very pleased with firefox.

Mozilla Firefox is a light but feature packed browser built on the Gecko core. It is very fast, free, and accurately renders pages. It has a built in Google Search, pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing, and many firefox extensions , themes, and skins to make it your best browsing experience.

Add Anonymity to your browser

For your privacy you may want to surf the web anonymously and the easiest and cheapest way to do this is by using swithproxy in mozilla firefox.

Download switchproxy for firefox and once installed restart the browser and you will see a tool bar where you can turn on and off the proxy.

You will need to add anonymous proxy servers to your proxy list. You can get a list of anonymous proxy servers at the steganos site.
Save the list as a text file and go to your fire fox proxy tool bar (options, preferences, manage proxies) to add this list of servers. Set the time interval to switch and you are good to go.

To see what your current IP address is checkout the site:
www.whatismyip.com

To test the anonymity of a proxy server search for anonymous proxy server test software. Some websites have server addresses that have been recently tested so you can get your list of servers there.

Speed Up Fire fox

forevergeek.com has a guide on speeding up firefox for broadband users. basically after getting to the hidden config settings you set the browser to request more data that it usually does.

1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit enter and look for the following entries:

network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Change the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you are on a broadband connection you will load pages faster now that you have made these changes.

Hackers go Phishing for Online Bankers

That email from your bank may be more than a friendly enquiry. It could be the hook of a Phisher, the new breed of Internet fraudster intent on stealing money by tricking customers into divulging online account details.
Online behaviour determines your level of security. Pointers on staying safe online:
  • Do not click on links that you dont know.
  • Don't open attachments.
  • Keep your computer virus and spyware software updated and scan your system regularly.
  • Never give your information to any site that requests it (Your bank has all your information and does not need it from you again). Call your bank to confirm that the email you just got is authentic.
  • Avoid using public computers for financial transactions or other sensitive online usage because you never know what is installed on the computer (viruses and keyloggers can steal your information).

Tiger direct has a USB secure browser thumbdrive that can be used to browse securely. Online fraud is the number one rising crime so be careful.
